Sam Ciapanna, the new President of Il Punto, will be at the Dante meetings in January with tickets to Carnevale for Dante members who want to purchase by check or cash at the discounted Il Punto member price.

Carnevale 2020
A festive fundraiser for The Italian Cultural Center - Il Punto.

Carnevale is one of the most colorful celebrations in the world. In Italy, we are serious about it. In the end, this is where it was born. Every village celebrates, every family cooks up a storm to honor this century long tradition of dancing, masquerading and feasting before the fasting and meditating of Lent.
Our local celebration begins with an antipasti buffet, followed by potato gnocchi as a primo piatto. The secondo piatto is roasted porchetta prepared and hand-carved by Due Cucina of Capitol Hill. For dolci we will have mini-cannoli filled on site by Kelly Cannoli of Lake City. T he kitchen will be open from 6 until 9 PM with the cannoli station open until 9:30. We will also have a cash bar where wine, acqua minerale, and soft drinks may be purchased. In addition to music and dancing, the evening will include costume and mask contests concluding with the announcement of the lucky winner of the 50/50 raffle.
Tickets are now on sale and are available for purchase until February 5, 2020. The cost is $50 per person, $20 for youths ages 6 to 15, and children 5 and under are free. Through January 31, 2020, Il Punto members can purchase tickets for $40 each – a 20% reduction. Don’t delay as we anticipate this event will sell out. Carnevale Schedule of Events:
6 – 9: Antipasti, gnocchi, and porchetta stations open.
7 – 9:30: Cannoli station open.
6 – 9:30: Beverage station open.
8:30: Parade of children in costumes and masks – all participants receive a prize.
9:30: Parade of entries for best mask and costume with prize awards.
10:00: Winner of 50/50 raffle announced.
6 – 10: Music and dancing to DJ.

Mask Making - Line Dancing Workshop

In preparation for Carnevale, Il Punto is also sponsoring a mask making seminar and Italian line dancing workshop on February 2nd. Cost is just $10 per person, children 6 and under are free. This is a 2 for 1 ticket, same price includes admission to either or both events. Come for the mask making, stay for the dancing. Mask making 2 - 3 PM: Bring paint brushes, glue guns, glue, and any items you want to add to your mask. We will supply mask forms and enough sequins, feathers, paint, and other materials to get you started. Its much more fun to create festive masks together as we get inspiration and encouragement from each other. RSVP by 1/26/20.
Italian Line Dancing Workshop 3 - 4 PM: It’s not the tarantella, but it is nearly as hypnotic. Fun and easy to do, no matter what your age and dancing ability, and a great way to burn off some calories. For a better idea of what this is, check out this youtube video:
