DESCRIPTION:When: April 26\, 2023Speaker: Annalisa Bellerio\, Italian journalist\, editor\, and writerTopic: La conquista dello spazio nell’arte del Rinascimento / The Conquest of Space in Renaissance Art \n \n \nAbout the Speaker:\nAnnalisa Bellerio is an Italian journalist\, editor\, and writer. After graduating in Art History from the University of Pavia\, she worked in publishing as editor-in-chief\, copywriter\, author of books\, articles\, and short stories\, and consultant for literary agencies. In Milan\, the city to which she belongs and returns every year\, Annalisa has also worked as an Italian Language\, Literature\, and History teacher\, as a guide for art exhibitions\, and as a volunteer in a middle school specialized for disabled children.\n\nIn the United States\, where she has lived for the past eight years\, she works as a writer\, an Italian language teacher\, and for Language Services. \nIn 15th-century Italy\, while explorers and sailors were redesigning with their discoveries the geography of the world known at the time\, and emerging classes were transforming society from the ground up\, artists gave shape to a new vision of reality through a revolutionary conquest\, both scientific and symbolic: the geometric perspective. \nThe representation of space developed in the Renaissance spread out of Italy to Europe and afterward throughout the world\, and is still used today in numerous fields such as architecture\, urban planning\, scenography\, astronomy\, military tactics\, 3D simulations\, and virtual reality. Its long history\, from its origins to its blooming and subsequent evolution\, represents an exciting journey through time and\, especially\, space.

DESCRIPTION:Quando: 22 Marzo 2023\, 7:30 p.m.Dove: St. Clement’s Episcopal ChurchOratore: Mario CazzantiPresentazione: Ravenna and  the Perpetual Reading of Dante’s Comedy \nMario Cazzanti\, originario di una cittadina della vicina Ravenna e Ferrara.

SUMMARY:English Language Meeting - November 9\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:When: November 9\, 2022Where: St. Clement’s Episcopal Church\, 1501 32nd Ave. S\, Seattle 98144Speaker: Sam CiapannaTopic: Abruzzo – a great place to visit\, an even better place to live \nAbruzzo\, forte e gentile\, is one of the mostly unknown regions of Italy and treasure to discover. It is the most northern of the southern regions\, a little over an hour from Rome yet nearly inaccessible until the autostrada was extended west to east across the Apennine mountains just a few decades ago. Geographically\, it consists of rugged mountains\, rolling hills\, and pristine beaches – nearly 50% of which is protected. Its isolation has preserved its tradition and culture\, making it a fascinating place to explore. Recent legislation aimed at boosting economic development in less populated areas has made Abruzzo a great place to retire. \nCome out to learn some of why this region has captured Sam’s heart and taste one of Abruzzo’s signature desserts – Pizza Dogge. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Long time Dante member and former president\, Sam Ciapanna\, will talk to us tonight about the little-known region of Abruzzo. He first visited it briefly to meet relatives in 1997 as two of his grandparents were born in Abruzzo and each subsequent visit was longer. In 2019\, he and his husband purchased a home in Colonnella\, just due passi from where his paternal grandfather was born. Sharing his love for Abruzzo has become a passion for him with plans to retire there in less than two years.

I’ll tell you about the music and the composers and the lives they lived\, featuring Italian music composed by Italian lute composers in Italy\, Italian music composed by Italians outside of Italy\, Italian music composed by foreigners in Italy\, and brand-new music improvised for you by an Italian-American lute player in Seattle.  \nAbout the SpeakerJohn Lenti specializes in music of the seventeenth century and has made basso continuo improvisation on lute\, theorbo\, and baroque guitar the cornerstone of a career that encompasses baroque and modern orchestras\, chamber music\, recitals\, and opera. He plays for the Metropolitan Opera\, symphony orchestras\, and baroque ensembles of all kinds\, in addition to presenting solo recitals and accompanying soloists in concert. His parents were a touring piano duo and he traveled with them as a kid as they performed around the Deep South\, thereby gaining an appreciation of the role of classical musicians as bearers of comfort and truth. He went to North Carolina School of the Arts and Indiana University and studied lute with Nigel North\, Jacob Heringman\, and Elizabeth Kenny. \n \n Register

Moreover\, she is a certified Yoga instructor\, “Competent Communicator” by Toastmasters International\, and volunteer “Docent” at Bellevue Arts Museum.\nHer paintings have been shown in private and collective exhibitions.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Presentation:\nFor Italian art\, culture\, and tourism scenes\, 2020 should have been “the Year of Raphael”\, five centuries after his death. As things turned out\, this was not the case. A major exhibition that Rome dedicated to the artist remained closed for months\, and other events scheduled to honor him were canceled\, postponed\, or moved online. Nonetheless\, it is not too late to remember this great protagonist of Italian and Western World art history even here in Seattle\, in such a suitable location as La Dante. A child prodigy\, successful young entrepreneur\, loved\, revered\, and sought-after by popes\, princes\, and lords from across Europe\, Raphael is little known today compared to his contemporaries Leonardo and Michelangelo.  \nSo\, let’s rediscover the extensive work and the revolutionary role this gifted son of the Renaissance played during his short life and much beyond in the following centuries \nPer l’Italia dell’arte\, della cultura e del turismo\, il 2020 doveva essere “l’Anno di Raffaello”\, cinque secoli dopo la sua morte.
