English Language Meeting – Nov. 13, 2024

November 13 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

When: Nov. 13, 2024

Speaker: Kate Causbie

Topic:  The ‘Tarantella’ – accompanied by a demonstration

Presentation:

Kate will be doing an overview of tarantelle of different regions of the south, looking at the locations that they come from and their history and social relevance. We will experience these traditions through video clips from gatherings in Italy, as well as practicing the main beats and steps.

About the Speaker:

Kate Causbie is a passionate student of Italian music and dance traditions, and works to build bridges between these living roots and diaspora communities. She is from Seattle, Washington, and since 2018 has been chasing “musica popolare” from Puglia, the homeland of her grandmother’s family. In 2024, Kate organized a unique English-language artistic residency on the topic, with a group of participants from three continents and in collaboration with a team of artists from Salento and the Melbourne School of Tarantella.
