English Language Meeting – Oct. 9, 2024

October 9 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

When:  Oct. 9, 2024

Speaker: Gina Siciliano

Topic:  Artemisia Gentileschi – Italy’s greatest female painter

Presentation:

Gina’s debut graphic novel tells the true life story of a pioneering female painter. Michelangelo, Velázquez, Rubens, Rembrandt — all larger-than-life Renaissance figures are celebrated for their mastery of their art. But often overlooked in this pantheon of Old Masters is Artemisia Gentileschi — Italy’s greatest female painter.

About the Speaker:

Gina is a historian, artist, musician and the award-winning author and illustrator of I Know What I Am: The Life and Times of Artemisia Gentileschi. Siciliano graduated from Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2007, where she studied oil painting, anatomical drawing, and figure sculpture. She self-published an ongoing queer feminist zine called So What, and then self-published two graphic novellas—The Roaming Heart (2009) and SummerTime (2011). She’s also continued oil painting, primarily portraiture, often utilizing early modern and Caravaggesque techniques.
