Topic: Lionardo DiCapua – 17th century Italian physician, scientist, teacher & author

Meeting Topic:

Luke has recently published a book: From Superstition to Science: Lionardo DiCapua and the Uncertainty of Medicine about an ancestor of his (physician, scientist, teacher, author and poet Lionardo DiCapua) from the 17th Century Kingdom of Naples. The 17th century is often overlooked as an important turning point to the modern world. Lionardo lived from 1617 to 1698 and he and his circle of friends were intimately involved with connecting the Kingdom of Naples to the most progressive elements of European thought.

Luke Magnotto Biography:

Luke is a retired emergency medicine physician, writer and Dante Alighieri member. Born and raised in Farrell, Pennsylvania, he received his BS from John Carroll University and his MD from Loyola University. He currently lives on Bainbridge Island, Washington, with his wife.​

2024-2025 Season

All in-person meetings take place on Wednesday evenings at St.Clement’s Episcopal Church on 1501 32nd Avenue South, Seattle 98144 (unless otherwise specified). Doors open at 6:00pm with presentations at 7:30.

RSVPs are requested for English meetings where dinner is served ($8/person). Italian meetings are preceded by potluck antipasti.

Winter programs (January & February) are held virtually on Zoom. Zoom-room opens at 7:00pm with presentations taking place at 7:30pm. All programs subject to change.
