The Barber of Seville, (Il barbiere di Siviglia), is an opera buffa in two acts composed by Gioachino Rossini  with an Italian libretto by Cesare Sterbini. The libretto was based on Pierre Beaumarchais’ French comedy The Barber of Seville (1775). Rossini’s Barber of Seville is considered to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comic opera. For more than two centuries it has remained a popular work.

Alex Minami is Associate Director of Community Engagement at Seattle Opera, where he curates the company’s community engagement initiatives and adult learning programs. Previously, Alex worked with foreign exchange students from Germany and Austria and served as Director of Operations of a youth leadership, foreign language, and global citizenship program for underserved high school students in Seattle. He holds a BA in German Cultural Studies and Political Science and an MA in Middle East Studies from the University of Washington, and he studied at the American University in Cairo on a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship. He is originally from Kāne‘ohe, Hawai‘i.

Alex will speak (in English) about  Seattle’s production of Il Barbiere, and about the Italian Mixer festivities that will take place at their May  performance. Our Dante Society is among the organizations offering a raffle prize for this event and tickets will be available! Debra Mc Kinney, Audience Services manager for Seattle Opera, will be on hand for more information!

Won’t it be good to be back to in-person meetings where you can see all your Dante friends? Join us for a dinner lovingly prepared by two DAS members, and then enjoy the presentation. Reservations required.
