Rob Prufer Topic: A Bellini in Venice: Seeing the paintings of Giovanni Bellini in Venice, like sitting in a Venetian campo and enjoying the cocktail named after him, is a special treat. What makes Bellini a master of the Venetian Renaissance? And what can we know about his long life and career, given that so little documentary evidence survives? Rob Prufer is a long-time participant in Dante Alighieri Society of Washington activities, including serving several years as vice-president. He isan avid student of the Italian language and Italian art history. He shareshis passion for art history with his students at Newport High School and the wider public in his lecture series at the Bellevue Arts Museum, The Loggia Lectures.

About the Speaker:

Gianfranco comes from Tissi, with a population of 2000, located in the north-west area of Sardegna (Sardinia). He moved to Seattle on November 2017, after having married his wife Jen. He has been working as a professional musician since he was on his 20s. Nowadays, he teaches music for Fingerprint School of Music in Seattle, performs with a bunch of local artists, and enjoys spending a lot of time with his one year old daughter Lucille.

About the Presentation:

The talk will start with a very brief introduction about Sardinia’s most characteristic aspects. After that Gianfranco will talk about Sardinia geography and how it has helped to preserve its unique culture, history and art, at least before mass media. The talk will finish with a short music performance of a couple Sardinian popular songs.
