English Language Meeting – September 8, 2021

September 8, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

When: September 8, 2021
Where: St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 1501 32nd Ave. S, Seattle 98144
Topic: Festa di Bentornato

Members Only Welcome Back Party

To celebrate our being able to get together again, our President, Joyce Ramee, will cook up a splendid pasta dinner for us.  That promises to be quite a treat.  Members are welcome as usual to bring appetizers and desserts to share as well as a bottle of wine for their table.

If you do so, please following the Live Meeting Covid Guidelines:

  • please portion shared offerings for individual servings;
  • avoid serving common dips and spreads; and
  • all food (including bread) should be served with utensils.

Instead of a speaker and to add the festivities, we are pleased that we will be joined by Renaissance lutenist John Lenti,  who will enhance our socializing with Italian music for the lute, theorbo and baroque guitar.

As usual, preregistration for the pre-Dante pasta dinner is requested to ensure that enough food is available for everyone. You can preregister only through the link included in your email invitation.  Cost is $8.00 per person.

As a special Bentornato treat, we’ll have a glass of bubbly prosecco for all and door prizes for the lucky / fortunati!

Be aware that we have a new location, the Undercroft of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 1501 32nd Ave. S, Seattle 98144.  The entrance is off the small parking lot for the church.  You may park in the church lot and there is ample free street parking in the area as well.

The schedule for the  Festa di Bentornato is as follows:  the hall at St. Clement’s is open at 6:00, dinner is at 7:00 and socializing continues until 8:30.

All members are invited to come if you feel safe to do so.  Bentornati!

One of the world’s great lute players makes his home in Seattle. John Lenti performs nationally and internationally with great baroque ensembles, including Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Apollo’s Fire, and many more. John presents an evening of music on lute.

John Lenti specializes in music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and has made basso continuo improvisation on theorbo the cornerstone of a career that encompasses work with baroque and modern orchestras, chamber music, recitals, and opera. The 2019-2020 season included performances with Acronym, Quicksilver, the Metropolitan Opera, Helicon Foundation, ARTEK, the Yale Collegium, and the Diderot String Quartet, among others, and that was all before the end of February. He has played at early and modern music festivals in Boston, Berkeley, Indianapolis, Bloomington, Vancouver, Carmel, the Proms, Aldeburgh, Valletta (Malta), and the San Juan Islands, and with baroque and modern orchestras on both coasts. His recent interests include the lute music of Alfonso Ferrabosco the Elder and the metaphysics of historically informed performance. His commitment to the music of our own time is negligible and might be considered more of an aversion, honestly. John went to North Carolina School of the Arts and Indiana University and studied lute with Nigel North, Jacob Heringman, and Elizabeth Kenny. He lives in Seattle.
